Western North Carolina Mission Trip | Day 3: Sanding, Smiles & Grace

Halfway through the week and we have been working hard and playing hard.

Today was our half day, and we spent our morning making sure that every minute counted.

A smaller group split from our site today to help another house with the final touches before the family was able to move in.  The rest of us worked on our house, and I’ll give you one guess what we did….

SAND!

Ok, we did a little more than that.

Today should be the last day of sanding, tomorrow we can start the painting process.  It’s amazing to watch the process come together and see this house start to become a home. Sometimes it’s frustrating to wait in order to complete the next project, we want to make sure everything we do is to the best we can.  So patience has been the “fruit of the Spirit” that has challenged us the most.

In the afternoon we all found ways to fill our time.  A group went hiking up Lookout (a staple when you come to Montreat) and others went into Black Mountain to shop.  Others just rested and enjoyed the solitude that mountains can give you.

We had dinner at My Father’s Pizza and we enjoyed good conversation and lots of laughter.  We are having a wonderful time together.

The challenge of the day was doing an act of kindness without expecting anything in return.  A difficult challenge for sure, but one we should all challenge ourselves with.

Tomorrow we will focus on the last few pieces of the fruit of the spirit, faith, gentleness and self-control.  The challenge is to look at your life and what you are doing during the day and see where you need to offer yourself a little more grace.

Please join in this challenge with us.  We are so hard on ourselves, expecting to be perfect, do perfect work, be the best person we can be, and when we fall short we don’t offer ourselves the grace we might offer others.

So my friends, take care of yourself tomorrow.

We are enjoying the mountain air…and there has only been one bear sighting so far.

I hope you are enjoying the photos so far.  There are so many more, and we can’t wait to share them with you.

Ok…I’m going to sign off so we can play a game.

Tomorrow will be a very full day, and we are excited to get back to work.

With all the kindness and goodness,

Emma
