Day 6: After Camp — Serving, Seeing & Giving Thanks

With the moms and children now on their way home, today brought a different kind of service at La Finca. The team spent the morning cleaning dorm rooms and preparing the camp for what comes next. Even with the electricity out today, all is well, and the crew continues to feel blessed to be here!

Last Night’s Dinner — The Best Yet!

Chicken kabobs, rice—with no beans this time!—and a wonderfully fresh cucumber and tomato salad made last night’s dinner a team favorite.

Tortillas or Bread?

The team learned about a friendly regional divide in Nicaragua: in the north, tortillas are the favorite, while those in the south tend to prefer pan (bread). Another little glimpse into the culture and communities they are getting to know!

Cleaning Up After Camp

With Mom Camp complete, the team got to work cleaning out the dorm rooms and resetting the spaces after a meaningful week together.

Matt on Mattress Duty!

Matt carries mattresses out of the dorms as part of today’s cleanup. The smaller mattresses were used for the children during camp.

A Need That Was Hard to Miss

Approximately 60 infants, toddlers, and children attended camp, but the resources available for their care were incredibly limited—just one high chair, one Pack ’n Play held together with zip ties, and no cribs or changing tables. Seeing these needs firsthand gave the team a new perspective on what could make future camps safer and more comfortable for the youngest guests.

Grateful Hearts

The electricity may be out, and thoughts of hot showers, clean sheets, Dr Peppers, and furry hugs back home are sounding pretty wonderful—but the team remains grateful for this experience and blessed to be here.

This Afternoon: Into the Community

This afternoon, the team will travel into surrounding towns to visit Young Life clubs and experience more of the local communities and culture firsthand. Another opportunity to see how God is at work beyond the gates of La Finca.

Coffee for the Journey Home!

We’re bringing home 122 bags of Nicaraguan coffee! At 12 ounces a bag and $10 each, it’s safe to say the team will be returning highly caffeinated! ☕😂

Today, the beans are being roasted and prepared for our trip home tomorrow. The aroma has filled the camp—something like popcorn right before it burns!

And speaking of popcorn, we learned it has a much more entertaining name here: “corn explosions.” 🍿💥

One more fun memory—and plenty of coffee—to bring home from Nicaragua!
