| Middle School (grades 6-8) Character. The Old Testament
is full of amazing stories about remarkable people. From the very beginning,
God has been at work in people's lives, whether kings, prophets, judges
or ordinary individuals. By looking at how God worked in their lives, we
see God's character, His love and provision, His judgment and discipline,
and His redemptive plan for humanity. Character reveals how people
of the Old Testament encountered God in amazing ways and their lives were
drastically changed. In this study students will be challenged to see how
an encounter with God will change their lives forever. Room 408
High School (grade 9-12) Reverb: Our Lives Echo in the World. Reverb focuses on the mission of God in the world. God has a mission for all mankind and for each person. This study educates students about God's overarching plan as well as His individual plan for each person to impact the world around him. Reverb is made up of 8 six-week courses designed to keep students engaged with the truth of God's Word. From His motivating love to His call on our lives, we are meant to impact those around us. | The Present Word (Room 508) uses the uniform lesson material
of the PCUSA and approaches Scripture each week as a thematic study. “The
Church as a Teaching Community” is the overarching theme for 2009-2010.
This fall the class examines Scripture from both the Old and New Testament
as participants get acquainted with people whom God chose as covenant leaders,
overhear the invitations God offered to enter into community, witness people’s
responses to these invitations, and examine the nature of God’s new covenant
community.
Verse By Verse (Room 504) continues their study of Scripture using the Bible as their main reference and methodically and reflectively examines Scripture verse by verse. Bring your personal Bible and join in! Discipleship (Room 512) This class will focus on carrying out God's vision for us in the world - living as disciples of Christ. Join us throughout the coming months for discussions based on Arbinger Institute's "The Anatomy of Peace," Henry Nouwen's "Reaching Out", and Dietrich Bonheoffer’s "Ethics," each of which will be augmented by materials from our own Presbyterian confessions. Family Life (Room 506) – New to the fall program, the Family Life Class will explore issues and topics related to the family, i.e. parenting, money matters, marriage enrichment, communication, parenting parents. This spring the class is looking at “The Simple Life,” by Thom Rainer and Art Rainer. “The Simple Life” will address the question “Does life have to be this complicated?” Interactions (Room 514) - tackles weekly current events in the news, examining an event and then exploring how Scripture addresses the issue(s). Class members receive a weekly email about the topic prior to Sunday's lesson when dealing with current events. Recent topics have looked at the death of Ted Kennedy, The Lockerbie Bomber’s Release, and Health Care. |
